Four Students and 3 Adults Take On DC

Every February, WACP staff and board members go to Washington DC to attend the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) week long workshop.  In 2009, WACP sent a group of Winston high school students to attend this workshop, all expenses paid through the Drug Free Communities Grant program.  The only requirement of these students, aside from being respectful, safe, and responsible on the trip, was to come back to Winston and apply what they had learned by developing a community service project. Those students chose to start a youth-led prevention club called Teens Against Drug Abuse (TADA).

This year, two Seniors and two Juniors went to DC, along with Kevin Wilson, the Douglas High School PE and Health teacher, Paulette Roberts, the WACP Administrative Assistant, and Linda Cline, the WACP Program Manager.  The 4 attending students are now in the planning stages for their community service projects.  We’ll keep you posted as these projects start to take shape.
