Beautification Committee

Winston Beautification Committee, a subsidiary of WACP, is comprised solely of volunteers, both those who live within the city boundaries and many who do not. Since the inception of this group, several areas of Winston along Douglas and Main Streets have been cleaned and/or landscaped, and each year flowering baskets are hung throughout the center of town to make it more attractive. All funding of projects has been from donations and the annual plant sale held during the city Trader Days.

Some of the projects completed to make our city more inviting include the plantings at City Hall, in front of the grocery store, on either side of the cheetah corner, the boxes on Douglas and Main Streets on either side of Abby’s Pizza, and the area below the former rental warehouse. The white lattice fence behind the landscaping at Willee’s Corner is also a project of the Beautification Committee. Future projects are being planned, and a second date for selling plants is planned for May of next year.

Many people in the community are joining in the effort, either by picking up litter in a section of town or by planting and cleaning. All people interested in volunteering on a small or large project, to monitor for vandalism, or just to keep one area of town litter free is encouraged to call Terri Allen 541 680-1544. Those who would like to donate money to help keep these projects going are also encouraged to phone this number. We must all work together to make our town a desirable, inviting place in which to live, build a business or shop.
